Out of all the competitions Legacy Dance Team competed in this season, I think the team will agree that the Talent of St. Lucie was one of the best. "It was so exciting to have a competition in our own community with all of our local friends, families and fellow competitors to be there to experience what we do best...Dance and Entertain!" says director Dawn Nabors. The audition process was held one month prior to the actual competition and it was alot of fun. Just like Idol, the judges went down the line to tell us what they thought of our performance and if they thought we were good enough to get a "golden ticket" to move on to the final round of competition. Not only did Legacy receive the "golden ticket" to advance to the dance group finals, but five of the Legacy dancers auditioned as soloists and they all received golden tickets to compete in the soloist finals as well. Courtney Fage and Dominique Taylor would compete in the high school singing category and Krystin Roker, Sasha Pond and Nyah Tennell would compete in the middle school dance category. Director Dawn Nabors states; "I love when people appreciate what a great group of talented students I have. They are all special to me, I love them! I am so proud of my dancers, I brag like they are my own kids!"
On April 4, 2009, The Realtors Assocaition of St. Luice held the "Talent of St. Lucie" competition for St. Lucie County's best singers and dancers consisting of middle school and high school students. The event was held at Tradition with the competition consisting of numerous categories. They had middle school soloists in singing and dancing, and group dancers as well as high school soloists in singing and dancing and group dancers.
The middle school competition was held first. There were some great performances by Legacy dancers Krystin, Sasha and Nyah but in the end Krystin Roker won first place for her outstanding solo. Later that afternoon it was time to move on to the high school competition. There were alot of high school singers! Legacy members Courtney and Dominique sang their hearts out. They were amazing but did not place although the crowd loved them! Of course they saved the best category for last...It's group dance time! Legacy delivered a flawless performance of thier original Hopestra (Hop-es-tra) routine full of energy, excitement, tricks and stunts. The crowd loved them and so did the judges. One of the judges even said they have never seen a Hip Hop routine like that before and they belonged on dancing with the stars! What a great performance! After the other dance groups performed, the judges deliberated. The winner is....LEGACY! Congratulations Paige Chambers, Asia Dawson, Deanna Driscoll, Courtney Fage, Sasha Pond, Mhay-Ann Prietos, Krystin Roker, Dominique Taylor, Nyah Tennell, Loryn Weathers, and Allie Woodward!
In between the whole audition process and Talent of St. Lucie contest, Legacy went to Orlando for National competition where they received four first place awards and won the over all All-Star National Championship title.
Legacy is now winding down their season and preparing for their end of the year showcase and party which will also include all of Legacy's open class students ages 7-18 yrs old from the PSL Community Center to join them. Legacy's "Showcase of the Stars" will be held on May 31, 2009 at the Port St. Lucie Community Center from 3-7pm. Legacy's dance classes held at the Community Center will continue over the summer and accepts new students every month.
Auditions for Legacy's 2009/2010 season will be held over the summer. PSL Legacy Dance Team is an Award winning performing and competitive All-Star Dance Team specializing in Hip Hop, Prop, Novelty, Jazz, and Fusion as well as some Break Dancing. Legacy's practice facility is located in the Port St. Lucie Community Center off Airoso & Port St. Lucie Blvd. (Across from City Hall) Legacy's All-Star squad is comprised of Middle School & High School students and accepts dancers from all over the Treasure Coast.
