Contributed by: Erick Gill, SLC Media Relations on 8/11/2009

FORT PIERCE - The 2009 St. Lucie County Junior Golf Association (SLCJGA) 2009 season recently concluded at Fairwinds Golf Course, hosting nearly 50 youngsters (ages 7-17) for the SLCJGA Championship on Aug. 3.

Four other golf courses in the county hosted the four other tournaments that made up the SLCJGA Annual Tournament Series including: Indian Hills, Panther Woods, St. James and The Saints.

"In these events, everyone is a winner," said Fairwinds Manager Matt Baum, who along with David Patterson and Travis Stoelting hosted the championship game. "The young people have a memorable experience and the families that follow them as they make their way around the golf course are as proud as peacocks. The professionals and the volunteers could not imagine any other golf event that is more rewarding."

SLCJGA rewards the top three players in each flight with a keepsake that will always remind them of their experience. First, second and third place competitors receive trophies. The top boy and girl are remembered by having their name engraved on respective trophies that are kept at Fairwinds. Additionally, one person amongst the players is selected to receive the Sportsmanship of the Year Award.

"We would like to take this opportunity to thank all of the players for their participation and express our appreciation to the volunteers that help to make sure the tournament runs smoothly," added Baum. "Thanks also to the parents and friends of the young people that support the whole process of transporting them to and from practice and tournaments and cheer them on during play."
