Get Irie at Mo' Bay Grill
Contributed by: Krista Sadlers on 7/1/2008

Irie is a Jamaican noun meaning good, excellent, great and good quality. Thus, a number of companies and traders in Jamaica use Irie in their names.

Mo' Bay Grill does not use this as part of their name but you certainly get good, excellent, great and good quality when you visit there. If you ask me, I'll tell you that Mo' Bay is my favorite restaurant. Unfortunately, it does not seem that many people know about this fine establishment. When I last visited, this past Friday night, we were only one of 3 tables.

When we arrived we were greeted at the door and taken to a booth in the small restaurant simply decorated with a Caribbean theme. My husband and I were both tempted by the special, although sounding like an odd combination, which proved to be such an amazing meal I am still talking about it days later. As we waited for our meal to arrive, we talked, sipped our drinks and enjoyed the reggae music in the background.

The presentation of the meal was so beautiful we hated to spoil the masterpiece with our forks. We knew, however, from past experience, that we have always enjoyed the meals immensely. This was no different. Our plate was started with one lump crab cake make with huge chunks of fresh crab. This was covered by two thin chicken breast tenderloins. Draped over all of this was a light lemon caper sauce. The accompaniment was mashed potatoes mixed with the perfect amount of spinach and garlic.

Although we both finished our meals, there was no way we could leave without dessert. The specialty of the house is a banana cheesecake. This cheesecake is light and airy and topped with a warm sweet rum sauce and bananas, cinnamon and powdered sugar. We didn't leave a drop on the plate! Chef Wesley made his way into the dining room to personally check to make sure we enjoyed our meal. "You keep us coming back!" we told him.

We have had nothing but great experiences at Mo' Bay Grill. Some of our other favorites include Run Jerk Shrimp Kabobs, She Crab Soup, Oxtail Stew, Jerk Half Chicken and Jerk Blackened Salmon. They also serve breakfast and lunch.

One definition of irie has three parts which all greatly represent the positive (I) powerful and pleasing, (2) excellent, highest, and (3) the state of great feeling. The atmosphere and staff at Mo' Bay Grillare powerful and pleasing. The food is excellent and of the highest quality. I certainly left there in a state of great feeling.

I hope you'll give it a try! Mo' Bay Grill is located at 13421 US Highway 1 (near Publix). Call at 772-589-4223 or find out more at http://www.mo-baygrill.com.
