A jovial bearded Ernest Hemingway-Santa Claus look-a-like will join a colorful flock of Treasure Coast Parrot Heads wearing tropical shirts, flip-flops and holiday hats Dec. 2 at the Fifth Annual Christmas in the Caribbean party benefiting the Salvation Army at the Ramada Inn inStuart.

The Treasure Coast Parrot Head Club will host the annual fund-raiser from 5 to 8 p.m. at Jilly's Grille, 1200 SE Federal Highway, Stuart. Guests are encouraged to bring unwrapped toys and non-perishable canned goods to support the Salvation Army this holiday season.

Prizes will be awarded for various events, including best Caribbean Christmas-themed costume and hat contests, as well as a cash prize raffle. Dance music will be provided by Jimmy Buffett-style singer/guitarist Lenny Loyd of Port St. Lucie and steel drum player George Pollis of Jupiter.

The Treasure Coast Parrot Head Club is a not-for-profit organization and charter member of the Parrot Heads in Paradise national organization of Jimmy Buffett fan clubs. The clubs support community and environmental concerns while providing social activities for people sharing a common interest in the tropical lifestyle exhibited by Buffett's words and music.

The Treasure Coast club, which has 115 members from Sebastian to Jupiter, supports charitable and environmental causes on the Treasure Coast throughout the year.

"Our motto is 'Party with a Purpose'," said club president Jeannine Johannes of Port St. Lucie. "What better time of the year to get together for a great time and benefit a crucial organization like the Salvation Army?"

The club has participated in beach cleanups, road cleanups and supported environmental groups as well as collecting toys for children before the Christmas holidays.

"We've been doing this for five years and every year it gets better and better," Johannes said. "Hopefully the public will join us at Jilly's Grille on Dec. 2 and see for themselves just how much fun Parrot Heads have while benefiting the community."

The Treasure Coast Parrot Head Club meets for Happy Hour the first Wednesday of each month at Conchy Joe's Restaurant in Jensen Beach.
