Scullys 4th Of July
Contributed by: Robert Scully on 7/5/2008

So it's the 4th of July 2008. We have plans with our neighbors and friends that include food (a barbeque), the beach and watching fireworks, which will be, launched someplace close to Riverside Park tonight at 9:00. I am sure I read 9:30 in the Press Journal but that irrelevant at this point.

The morning was spent chatting with our friend Joe who drove up from Stewart and stayed the day with us. She brought all kinds of food. If I tell you what she brought you would start to salivate so I won't torture you, this time.

The day plan changed a few times, as usual. I thought we were going one way and my wife was going a different way, and our neighbor was thinking another direction, and so on. The compromise was the beach for a few hours in the morning. We were back by noon and the grill was smoking. We had brat at about 1 and then it was time for the afternoon nap. After all, the plan was to go out for the fireworks display ay 9PM.

So later that afternoon the grill was lit once again. We had separate orders for all the steak and it was up to the chef to figure out how to make it happen. I like my meat cooked, which translates to well, others ordered med rare and rare. So I stated that the clock started at 6 30 PM, which is when I put on my steak. Now mind you all this is happening under the influence of the afternoon tropical rum cocktails. I explained that the other orders were to be put on the grill in ten-minute intervals. All meat was coming of the grill at 7. The table was set and the rest of the dinner was ready. I was the outside guy and the girls worked the inside. So the dinner was fabulous and then it was time to head to the fireworks.

Its not easy getting shots at night on the 4th of July. I took some movies as well and will post those to YouTube later this afternoon. Right now I am getting ready to go boating on the Indian River. I should have done that last night.

There was a lot of traffic out and places to park and watch the fireworks were not easy to get to. The Vero PD closed the park in the fingers. That was the spot I picked but my planning timetable was wrong so we settled for one of the streets in the fingers. If you are local you know where I am talking about.

We actually set up the lawn chairs in the road, which turned out to be a bad idea. After a car came rather close to our neighbor who was bravely sitting in her chair and refusing to move, a local fingers homeowner suggested we might consider his front lawn or driveway, and we took him up on it. So from that lawn I took the pictures. I never did introduce myself but he spoke with my wife and neighbor while I was taking movies. My wife, neighbor and I thank you kind sir.
