LogOn takes every opportunity to dine by the sea, so the
Seaside Meeting Place
seemed an ideal lunch destination.
I didn't find much of my marine habitat inside the downtown Hobe Sound eatery, but I did discover a colorful restaurant where I could stuff my shell.
Seaside is hard for anyone driving down Bridge Road to miss. The pink building has a bright, sea-green roof and rainbow picket fence that caught my eyes.
Inside, I found a restaurant set up much like a diner. Paintings of sailboats and beach scenes fill the windows and adorn the walls. I sat in a booth next to a row of autographed photos of golfers.
I asked the waitress for a glass of lemonade ($1.50) while I perused the lunch menu.
Seaside specializes in seafood from New England, particularly the Maine lobster rolls and Ipswich wholebelly clams advertised on the sign in front of the restaurant. The menu also includes hot dogs, burgers, a collection of wraps and a variety of sandwiches.
I strayed from the regular lunch menu and asked for one of the daily specials, salmon with rice ($8.95). The waitress brought out a grilled salmon fillet covered in a blend of delicious spices and served over a bed of rice. I dove right into the fish, finishing in a few minutes.
After a quick glance at the desserts listed on the whiteboard behind me, I knew my meal wasn't quite finished. I ordered a slice of homemade cheesecake topped with cherries ($3.95). The thick, tasty cheesecake filled up whatever room I had left in my stomach.
I noticed a brief article with the list of lunch specials that said Seaside's owners are planning to convert the restaurant into a Charleston, S.C.-style inn. The waitress confirmed the switch could begin later this year. So if you want to enjoy the restaurant in its current form, now is a good time to go Seaside for lunch.
