HUTCHINSON ISLAND, Florida/March 6, 2008 - Cooke's Environmental Services, a 50 year provider of regional residential and commercial septic tank, wastewater, and environmental services, has been awarded the
Think Green Award during the
Keep Martin Beautiful 2008 Environmental Stewardship award ceremonies. The Awards salute those who instill community pride and improve the quality of life in Martin County, Florida.
Cooke's received the award for converting its entire fleet of septic pump out trucks to burn environmentally friendly Viesel fuel. Viesel is produced by Cooke's from recycled and refined used fryer oil. The oil is reclaimed by Cooke's after being donated by restaurants and other businesses throughout the greater Treasure Coast region. "This is a win-win for everyone," said Stu Lamb, owner of Cooke's Environmental Services. "Restaurants and other businesses can recycle their used frying oil while helping drive down the high cost of fuel at the pump," added Lamb.
Instead of paying to have their used fryer oil hauled away, Cooke's picks it up for free and promotes the restaurant or business as a partner in the fight against high fuel prices at the pump. "Viesel™ is ecologically friendly, more powerful and up to 30 percent less expensive than diesel. Viesel™ is CO²-neutral, sulfur-free and nontoxic," said Lamb. "And, since it is not carbon based it does not pollute like conventional fuel or have hazardous byproducts, and will not contribute to global warming," he added. All those attributes were factors in the decision to award the Think Green Award to Cooke's. The award was presented by Waste Management.
