BE A BETTER BOATER
Contributed by: Terry Barth, FSO-PA on 10/29/2007

The Fort Pierce Coast Guard Auxiliary will be offering the ABC Safe Boating Course on Saturday, November 17th from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.
This will be the last course for 2007, so if you're new to boating or just need a refresher, plan to attend.

For those who aren't familiar with the America's Boating course, it is designed especially for the recreational boater to encourage safety on the water. Enjoy your boating experience more by learning the rules of the waterway. Learn how to identify potentially dangerous situations and how to manage them. Be aware of the waterway signs, markings, what they mean and how to negotiate them. Learn basic docking techniques, navigation rules and survival skills.

This course is also State approved for those 21 and under to obtain their Florida State Boaters License. Also, many insurance companies will offer a discount once the course has been taken and passed.

Courses are held at the Flotilla 58 Coast Guard Auxiliary Building at 1400 Seaway Drive, Fort Pierce Fl. 34949. The course is free, but there is a materials fee. Please send a check for $36.00 ($10.00 for each additional family member) to Flotilla 58 C/O Jerry Henderson, 5009 Buchanan Drive, Fort Pierce, Fl. 34982. For more information call Jerry at 772-466-8591. Remember, this is the last course of the year, so we hope to see you there!
