BOATING SAFELY CAN BE A FAMILY AFFAIR
Contributed by: Terry Barth, FSO-PA on 7/2/2008

If you're new to boating or just need a refresher, the Coast Guard Auxiliary will be giving the ABS Boating Safely course on Saturday, July 19th from 08:30 am to 5 pm. Please try to arrive by 8:15 am.

The America's Boating Safely course is designed especially for recreational boaters of all ages to encourage safety on the water. Enjoy your boating experience more by learning the rules of the waterway. Learn how to identify potentially dangerous situations and how to manage them. Be aware of the waterway signs, markings, what they mean and how to negotiate them. Learn basic docking techniques, navigation rules and survival skills.

This course is State approved to obtain the Florida State Boaters License. Remember, if you're 21 or under, you must have a Florida State Boaters License to operate a vessel. Also, check with your insurance company. Many insurance companies will offer a discount once the course has been taken and passed.

Courses are held at the Flotilla 58 Coast Guard Auxiliary Building at 1400 Seaway Drive, Fort Pierce Fl. 34949. There is a fee of $36.00 to cover materials. Additional family members are $10.00 per person.

To register, or more information, call Joe at 772-461-3500 or Gary at 772-321-3041. Hope to see you there!
