On November 27, 2007, the Lady Stuart I Deep Sea fishing boat moved to its new home at the Hutchinson Island Marriott Resort. With the move, anglers aboard the Lady Stuart will now get 45 minutes to one hour of EXTRA fishing time on each trip because the Marriott is about 3 miles closer to the St. Lucie Inlet.
The original Lady Stuart began operations in the Manatee Pocket over 30 years ago. About 10 years ago, new ownership moved the business to Jensen Beach where it remained until this move. Because of the longer travel time to the fishing spots, the then owners increased the length of the fishing trips from 41/2 hours to 5 hours.
Current owners David and Rosemary Knight purchased the business in late 2004. Many customers seemed to like the location because it was in popular downtown Jensen Beach - and easy to get to. They also enjoyed the beautiful ride down the Indian River. However, some customers complained that the travel time to the fishing spots was just too long. Despite the long distance, the Lady Stuart remained a local favorite, winning a Platinum Award for "Best charter fishing boat" three periods in a row.
The Lady Stuart's new home at the Marriott should appeal to most customers. Just over the Stuart Causeway, the Marriott is very easy to get to and close to many popular spots in Stuart. Customers will still enjoy a ride down one of the most scenic sections of the Indian River - Sailfish Point. Most importantly, customers will get A LOT of fishing time. By keeping the half-day trips at 5-hours, the Lady Stuart will continue to offer longer half-day trips than most boats in Florida. But with its closeness to the St. Lucie Inlet, travel time will be a lot less. That should result in over 3 hours of fishing - that's MORE fishing time than with most other boats in Florida.
The crew of the Lady Stuart is also very excited about the move. "We'll be so close to the Inlet" commented first mate Jason Barker, "we'll be able to try new spots that we've never had time to get to before."
The schedule on the Lady Stuart I will change slightly with the move. The boat will offer one seven-hour trip 9am-4pm on Fridays and Sundays, and two five-hour trips, 8am-1pm and 1:30pm-6:30pm, the rest of the week (Saturday, Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday).
The Hutchinson Island Marriott Resort & Marina is located at 555 NE Ocean Blvd in Stuart, right over the Stuart Causeway on Hutchinson Island.
