"ISLAND-GIVEAWAY" SPEED-BUMP
Since the County Commission voted in favor of the questionable site plan, density extravagance, and land abandonment, requested by a condo developer on North Hutchinson Island, a significant speed-bump has been inserted by the State of Florida. The Department of Citizen's Affairs decided to intervene in the Administrative Hearing on behalf of a couple who were going to be adjacent to the jammed, 84 unit condominium complex to be built by the developer.
If the wheels of State and County Government keep spinning at their present rate, it could mean that the developer will not be able to resubmit a corrected application before January 2007.This gives us, the citizens of St. Lucie County, an opportunity to confront those four County Commissioners who approved of this travesty in the first place. Why did they ignore theZoning and Development board's unanimous recommendation to deny the developer? Why did they not respond to the majority of residents of the island who spoke against and requested a more moderate plan be submitted. What was their motive in overlooking the many discrepancies in entrances, sidewalk and driveway dimensions particularly when the developer is distributing money to some residents for their support. The four that voted to approve this condominium development were Chris Craft, Joe Smith, Paula Lewis , and Frannie Hutchinson. The only Commissioner to vote against this "Giveaway" was Doug Coward.
The fight is never over.Stay Close.Robert Tabor
