Sewing Machines Needed - The Gifford Youth Activity has begun offering quilting and sewing classes; the response is great and additional machines are needed. Free Vessel Safety Checks - Attention boaters...The Port St. Lucie Power Squadron offers free vessel safety checks. Qualified squadron members will check your boat's PFDs, lights, registration and required safety items to verify that they meet state and federal regulations. If you pass, you will be issued a dated inspection decal that is recognized by the Coast Guard for one year. If you fail, no record will be kept and you may request another free inspection when deficiencies are corrected. The Ft. Pierce Jazz & Blues Society is seeking individuals who would like to name a scholarship - possibly for a parent or child who has passed or a special person that you want to recognize for their love of music and the arts. i.e. The Marie Martin Memorial Ft. Pierce Jazz & Blues Society Scholarship. Scholarships could be as small as $100 up to $5000. Care Net 18th Annual Fund Raising Banquet - 6:30pm each evening - For the first time attendees have an opportunity to choose between two dates. The theme is "Garden of Hope" because this is what Care Net offers to men and women facing unplanned pregnancies. The featured speakers at this year's event will be former abortionist, Dr. Anthony Levatino, OB, GYN, and his wife Cecelia, R.N.; the story of their conversion to pro-life has educated and motivated audiences worldwide. Port St. Lucie Power Squadron Boat Smart/Safe Boating Class - Saturday, 9/15 from 9am - 4pm & Sunday, 9/16 from 2-4pm - at First Presbyterian Church of Port St. Lucie, 2240 SE Walton Rd., Port St. Lucie. The course will cover basic seamanship, navigational aids, knot tying, and much more. Passing grades may lower insurance premiums and students completing the course will meet the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission's boat license requirements. Tuition is free and $30.00 covers course materials; 2nd family member is only $10.00 for the exam. All students under 18 that pass the course will be reimbursed through a teen scholarship. This is a student-initiated, student organized, and student-led event. It is all about students meeting at their school flagpole to pray-for their school, friends, teachers, government, and their nation. Young people will begin gathering at their school's flag pole one hour before school and student led prayer will begin 20 minutes before the start of school that day.
