Boat Smart - Safe Boating Class - Port St. Lucie Power Squadron is offering a two session Boat Smart Safe Boating Course on Saturday, January 19, from 9am - 4pm and Sunday, January, 20, from 2-4pm at First Presbyterian Church of Port St. Lucie, 2240 SE Walton Rd., Port St. Lucie. The course will cover basic seamanship, navigational aids, knot tying, and much more. Passing grades may lower insurance premiums and students completing the course will meet the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission's boat license requirements. Tuition is free and $35.00 covers course materials; 2nd family member is only $10.00 for the exam. All students under 18 that pass the course will be reimbursed through a teen scholarship. Free Vessel Safety Checks - Attention boaters...The Port St. Lucie Power Squadron offers free vessel safety checks. Qualified squadron members will check your boat's PFDs, lights, registration and required safety items to verify that they meet state and federal regulations. If you pass, you will be issued a dated inspection decal that is recognized by the Coast Guard for one year. If you fail, no record will be kept and you may request another free inspection when deficiencies are corrected. Enrollment - Smart Start Child Care Academy is accepting children from infants to 12 years of age. This Christian child care facility is open Monday through Friday from 6:30am to 6pm at the Port St. Lucie Worship Center, conveniently located at 10662 S. US Hwy One, just one block south of PSL Blvd. in Port St. Lucie. Under the direction of Gertrude Stevenson with 24 years experience in this field, they offer daily child care, after school & pre-kindergarten programs and participate in the Early Learning Subsidized Child Care Program. Quarterly Registration for Midnight Basketball - Youth ages 12-18 are invited to register for Midnight Basketball played every Friday night at Forest Grove Middle School, 3201 S. 25th Street in Fort Pierce. The fun begins at 9pm and there is always room for more players; be ready to play because spectators are not permitted.
