Fort Pierce, FL November 24, 2007 - The 22 nd Annual Muster at the National Navy UDT-SEAL Museum proved to be not only the biggest, but also the best. The Annual Muster was kicked off by a 5K beach run, and featured the Navy Parachute Team, the "Leapfrogs", along with a demonstration by SEAL Team Ten. Numerous celebrities including Rudy Boesch, from the CBS series "Survivor", New York Times bestselling author Marcus Luttrell, "Rogue Warrior" Dick Marcinko, and SOCOM Commander ADM Eric Olson were also in attendance.
"We could tell things were going to be huge when we saw the turnout at the race this year" said Museum Executive Director, Michael Howard. "Our Race Director and Organizer, Karen Schlitt of Vero Beach, really went the extra mile to make this happen". The race turned out to be representative of the entire weekend, with several thousand people showing up for the demonstrations, photo opportunities, and book signings. The SEAL Accelerator, the Navy's newest promotion which combines physical activities with static displays and tests whether people have what it takes to become a SEAL, proved to be extremely popular. "It was simply awesome!" said one participant who came all the way from Kansas, "The cargo net climb was my favorite part".
Muster, which honors the US Navy SEALs and showcases their capabilities to the public, just finished its 22 nd iteration. Each year, the Museum strives to make it better than the year before. This year, addition of corporate sponsors such as HALO Trust International, Bitrage, and the Mellon Patch Inn opened up avenues of possibilities which had never existed before. "The addition of corporate sponsors allow us not only to focus on Museum patrons, but also to provide a better experience for everyone - without having to sacrifice our standards of quality and excellence", said Museum President Willard B. Snyder.
The Navy UDT-SEAL Museum is the only museum dedicated to preserving the history of the Navy SEALs and their predecessors, including the Underwater Demolition Teams, Naval Combat Demolition Units, Office of Strategic Services Maritime Units, and Amphibious Scouts and Raiders. Located in Fort Pierce, Florida - the birthplace of the Navy Frogman - the Museum promotes public education by providing the opportunity to explore the history of the Navy SEALs in an atmosphere of respect and honor.
