FORT PIERCE, Florida/September 10, 2007 - According to a just released Economic Impact Analysis by the Recreation Marine Research Center at Michigan State University, Harbortown Marina-Fort Pierce will have a nearly 14 million dollar impact on the local economy and create more than 112 jobs during 2007. The study is based on the total number of boats at the marina, as well as direct and indirect spending by the boating community.
"We are extremely pleased to learn of the results," said Steve Stiglbauer, General Manager, Harbortown Marina-Fort Pierce. "We have long suspected that our marina was a major contributor to the region's economy. Now, we have the facts to support our belief," he added.
The study is based on a total of 6,094 boats utilizing Harbortown Marina-Fort Pierce during 2007. This includes power and sail boats which are seasonal or annual tenants, and transient visitors. Based on formulas used in the research, boaters at the marina will take their vessels out on the water for a total of 20,527 days with transient boaters spending 5,750 nights at Harbortown. The study also found that a typical boater spends $528 per year on boating trips and $1,109 per year on craft-related expenses.
"This proves Harbortown Marina Fort Pierce is a very viable member of the local marine industry and has a significant impact on the economic well-being of the entire region," concluded Stiglbauer.
