COAST GUARD AUXILIARY SAYS THANK YOU

The Coast Guard Auxiliary Flotilla 58 would like to congratulate and thank all the participants of their 2007 Safe Boating classes! It was a great year! Everyone successfully passed these one-day, eight hour programs. It's commendable that so many people took the time to learn the "rules of the road" to become a better boater. The time and effort each student put forth helps to make the Treasure Coast a safer place to boat.

The very last class of 2007 is featured in the photograph. This class is very typical of the mix of students that normally attend our courses. There were experienced boaters, new boaters, husband and wife teams, entire families and those under 22 that are required to complete and pass a Boating Safety course to obtain their Florida Boater ID card.

In the courses, we cover such topics as Navigation Rules, boating emergencies, Federal and State laws, trailering and much, much more. Though it's a fast-paced course with a lot of information, there's always plenty of time for questions and answers.

At the end of our program everyone tells us how much they've learned and that they had a good time. Even the experienced boaters and anglers comment that they are surprised at the things they didn't know!

If you're interested in becoming a better, safer boater and meeting a great group of people, then plan on attending one of our 2008 Boating Safety courses. They are held at the Coast Guard Auxiliary building at 1400 Seaway Drive in Fort Pierce. The courses will be from 08:45 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. on the following Saturdays:

Feb. 16 May 10 Aug. 16 Nov. 15
Mar. 15 Jun. 21 Sep. 13
Apr. 19 Jul. 19 Oct. 18
