!! Beware !! Citizens of St. Lucie County

!! BEWARE!!

CITIZENS OF ST. LUCIE COUNTY

SOMETHING HAS JUST HAPPENED that affects every citizen in our county. The St. Lucie County Commission, IN THE INTEREST OF A PRIVATE DEVELOPER, has just stampeded across several of the guidelines that have successfully controlled our growth for years.

Some of these irregularities:

  1. The Commission "abandoned" (gave away) a piece of your property (valued at more than $1 million) to the developer without any repayment. It will be the sight of a three-story condo building overlooking neighbor's homes and yards. (estimated value: $10 million)
  2. The density cap of nine units an acre has been overstepped to an unprecedented 10 units an acre, which opens the Pandora's box of unlimited crowding.
  3. Developers were able to buy extra density for $5 thousand dollars per unit. Does this mean that, our density code can be ignored by any developer with money?
  4. North Hutchinson Island lost its last COMMERCIAL piece of property through REZONING, (8 acres) for 80 more condos Just when our county should be planning for more beach services for its residents both north and south, they are giving away the last section of the north beach where such services could exist.
  5. The miniscule 10.000 square feet of commercial property proportioned by the developer, spread throughout the condo buildings, will share residential parking spaces with the condo tenants, which before has also been against the rules.
  6. Cash money ($33 thousand.) is actually being given to some residents to buy their approval.
  7. Approximately 75% of the 100 or so people who stayed at this meeting till after mid-night, spoke against this give-away.
  8. The County Commissioners ignored the recommendation of the County Planning and Zoning Board to deny this entire plan.
  9. Enough !! The list could go on but it doesn't get any prettier.

Commissioner Doug Coward was the only commissioner who voted AGAINST this travesty. The other four, Paula Lewis, Frannie Hutchinson, Joe Smith, and Chris Craft, voted FOR the approval of this give-away. Port St. Lucie and The Northern County residents should be warned that these commissioners, for some reason, are willing to ignore our citizens future needs for commercial and retail needs and by-pass residential codes and traditional growth guidelines, which before, have kept in check runaway expansion. There are other very wealthy opportunists standing in the wings ready to rip this county into personal pockets of GOLD. Make your voice heard. Our county is not FOR SALE. The August-September elections are upon us. MAKE SURE YOU VOTE.
