PASTOR KURT OWEN-A SPIRITUAL LEADER
Contributed by: COLLECTOR'S COMICS on 11/16/2006

My name is Keith Mallow, and I own Collector's Comics in Fort Pierce. I met Pastor Kurt Owen at my store about a year and a half ago. He wandered in and was browsing, and introduced himself as Kurt. We chatted a bit and spoke about people that we knew. He was very happy to see a new comic book store open, as he happened to be a collector!

Eventually he told me he was a Pastor at the Victory Word Church in Fort Pierce. I cringed at that information, because of the way I had said certain things. He reassured me that there wasn't any problem, and he proceeded to make a purchase. He wanted to pay by check, and I told him, "Nothing personal , but I had received some bad checks and I no longer accepted them. Again, no problem and he paid cash. We spoke of the amount of one of the bad checks I had received, and he understood my rationale. As he was leaving, he shook my hand, and I could feel there was a piece of paper in my hand. He turned around and abruptly left.

When I looked in my hand, I saw that he had written a check to cover my loss for the amount of the bad check. As I examined the check I saw that in the space marked memo he wrote, "For Integrity".

I was dumbfounded. I had just met the man and he was offering this incredible generosity!

Of course, as this was not his debt, I could not accept it. I put it on my cork board and waited for him to return. We kept missing each other for the next 2 weeks, but we finally met up again.

I returned his check and told him that he restored my faith in people. He insisted I accept it, but I couldn't.

As the months passed, we became close friends. He constantly helped me through many emotional & business problems. One day I told him I had thousands of comics that I wanted to donate to a charity, but I didn't know which one to choose. He suggested I start my own program and send them overseas to our soldiers. As I am a tremendous supporter of our troops, this to me was a natural! We discussed what we could call this program and once again, after throwing a few names around, he came up with "Heroes for Heroes"!

I lined up a few people who said that they would help pay for the shipping, but for one reason or another they fell by the wayside. While my intentions were honorable, and I had the books to send, I didn't have the extra capital to spend on the actual postage.

Once again, Pastor Kurt stepped up and said, "I'll take care of it! It will be a blessing!"

Well, I don't think either of us thought it would grow the way it has, but "Heroes for Heroes" has received over 100,000 comic books to be sent over to the soldiers! The postage is phenomenal, and he never once complained.

I was talking to my wife, Monica, and I told her that even though Pastor Kurt and I are of different religions, I have never been as comfortable with a religious leader as I am with him.

Monica explained to me that the reason is that not only is he religious, he is spiritual!

She was 100% correct! It is his spirituality that is his greatest asset!

He is constantly on the go! He is the Chaplain for the Port St. Lucie Police Dept.

He gives hours and hours to community service! He is loved and respected by all who know him!

He flies all over the world to help many people in need! He makes himself available to all who need him! You can read more about Pastor Kurt Owen at: http://www.victorywordchurch.com.

He has constantly been there for me! He has shown me how to be a better person, and Monica and I are very proud to call him friend-actually to be more precise-extended family!

We love you Pastor Kurt Owen!
