Want Sensational Skin? Choose These Healthy Habits
Contributed by: Dorothy Kamm, Yates & Associates on 9/25/2008

INDIANTOWN, Florida/September 25, 2008 - Advertisements for skin care, skin appearance and skin problems dominate women's magazines and the media. Many of these products and services enhance skin's natural abilities. "Skin can regenerate and repair itself under most conditions," said Cheryl Herndon, ARNP, Director of Women's Health Specialists Aesthetic Services.

While there are literally thousands of skin care services and products available, you'll be pleased to know that there are seven simple things you can do for your skin, as well as your overall health.

"Water, water, water. Drink more water, that is, not float on a beach raft at some crystal clear Caribbean paradise," said Herndon. Most healthcare and skin care professionals recommend drinking a minimum of 64 ounces of water per day, more if you are exercising or are spending a lot of time outdoors.

"Protect yourself from the sun with a high quality, broad spectrum sunscreen," recommended Herndon. "Use a sunscreen with an SPF of 30 or higher. It not only will make your skin look better, it also will help prevent skin cancer," added Herndon. Unprotected exposure to the sun is the number one cause of skin damage. Make a habit of wearing sunscreen every time and all the time you're in the sun. Protective clothing should be worn as well.

According to Herndon, "Many don't realize that the foods that they consume also determine the quality of their skin's appearance." Eat at least four servings of fruits and vegetable daily to eliminate toxins and promote the natural regeneration of skin cells. "Any foods which are high in anti-oxidants will improve the skin. Think berries - blueberries, blackberries, cherries, strawberries - as well as peppers, parsley, Brussels sprouts, spinach and red beets," added Herndon.

"Smoking increases wrinkles, especially around the mouth," warned Herndon, "since it interferes with proteins in your skin." Quit to improve your appearance.

To preserve your skin, limit alcohol intake to three glasses of wine per week. More than that may cause blood vessels to become prominent. "Alcohol dehydrates your skin, giving it a dry and flaky appearance," said Herndon. "It also makes skin disorders, such as rosacea, worse."

"Sleeping at least eight hours a night, every night, will improve skin and every other body system," recommended Herndon. Lack of sleep aggravates acne and other skin conditions. It also causes the under-eye area to darken and become puffy.

Daily exposure to air conditioning, weather and chemicals causes skin to become dry and scaly. Herndon recommends using a cleanser instead of soap to improve moisture in the skin. "Additionally, skin care products made from vitamin A, such as retinoids, help protect the skin from losing moisture," said Herndon.

Following the above seven steps will help you have sensation skin. "Just think how beautiful your skin can be if, in addition to the above steps, you complement your healthy skin with laser and aesthetic treatments," said Herndon. "You'll be not only sensation, but stunning!" For more information or to book your appointment, contact Women's Health Specialists Aesthetic Services at (772) 419-4836.
