Two factions of artists come together in "Birds of a Feather" at the opening reception on Jan. 3 presenting the artwork from the Audubon Society and original habitat landscape art of Cuba. This exhibition presented by The Arts Council opens First Thursday, Gallery Night on Jan. 3 at the Court House Cultural Center at 5 p.m.
Among the local artists who depict our feathered friends in various medium are Phil Capen, Guy Coheleach, John Dye, Ed Fisher, Claudine Laabs, Robin Makowski, Karen Russell Massengill, Linda Relis, Geoffrey Smith, and Mary Louise Sullivan. Several reproductions of images by John James Audubon will also be on display.
Among the Cuban artists will be Alfredo Rodriguez whose oils on canvas portray the romantic majestic landscapes of Cuba. He and his brother, Jorge, reside and paint daily in Bayamo, Cuba.
The exhibit opens on First Thursday Gallery Night, Jan. 3, featuring 24 galleries from Hobe Sound to Jensen Beach. The event is free to the public, and art patrons are encouraged to make an itinerary for the evening to visit galleries for a night to see and be seen. "Birds of a Feather" exhibit continues at the Court House Cultural Center Gallery through Jan. 18, 2008. Gallery hours at are Monday through Friday, 10 a.m. - 4 p.m.
The Arts Council Inc. serving Stuart and Martin County is a 501(c)3 non-profit membership organization that supports the arts and artists. Revenues from events benefit both the artists and the Arts Council. The Arts Council and the Court House Cultural Center Gallery are located at 80 E. Ocean Boulevard, Stuart.
