Contributed by: Jim Dailey on 10/12/2009

On Thursday October 22 nd former World Heavyweight Champion and the first ever IBO Heavyweight World Champion Pinklon Thomas will be spending his day with members from the Jupiter Boxing Club & Martial Arts Training Center. The public is welcome to come and meet the Boxing Hall of Fame Champ as he introduces south Florida to Project P.I.N.K. Project P.I.N.K. is Pinklon's non-profit organization for kids in need. Pinklon is a counselor for Project P.I.N.K. which stands for "Pride In Neighborhood Kids". John Daddono, the owner of the Jupiter Boxing Club has committed to helping this wonderful cause and will assist Pinklon in raising funds for Project P.I.N.K. Anyone wishing to make a contribution to this charity will be given a receipt for their donation as it will be considered fully tax deductible.

Pinklon became a fast rising star in the 1980's plowing through every competitor that got in his way. Undefeated with a record of 24-0-1, Thomas got his heavyweight title shot against WBC champion Tim Witherspoon on August 31, 1984, in Las Vegas. Known for his solid chin, a great left jab, and his pink boxing trunks, Thomas boxed his way to the heavyweight championship by a majority decision. Ten months later, Pinklon defended his title against ex-champion Mike Weaver, stopping Weaver in the eighth round with one of the most devastating single punch knockouts in heavyweight history. Thomas lost the WBC title to Trevor Berbick, in March 1986, by a decision. In a comeback attempt in May 1987 against champion Mike Tyson, Thomas went down in the sixth round for the first and only time in his career. Thomas beat the count however the referee stopped the bout moments later. When most thought his career was over, Pinklon stunned the boxing world as he captured the vacant IBO World Heavyweight title by defeating Detroit's Craig Payne. His final record was 43-7-1 with 34 KO's.
