There are many things we need to do before severe weather strikes. One of the most neglected is preparing your A/C system for it. Seeing as your air conditioning system the most expensive replaceable system in your home, as well as the single biggest user of electricity in most homes, Ocean Breeze Cooling has listed below some ways to protect it before a storm, as well as some ways to check and see if it is running well after one.
Pre- Storm Check Up-
Has your outside (condensing unit) been properly tied down to your concrete slab to avoid shifting? When units are struck by debris (even something as small as a roof shingle, it can knock the unit, and cause it to shift, kink up your copper lines or cause your electrical wires to break, neccessitating a costly repair.
Have you removed all loose debris from the area around your outside unit? Debris around your unit can become airborne or fall into your unit and cause damage to the coil or copper lines.
Have you trimmed back any shrubs or plants around your unit.? Overgrown plants and shrubs can choke off air circulation around your unit and cause it to run inefficiently, as well as causing parts to wear out quicker than they should have.
If you have any questions about whether your unit is ready for heavy thunderstorms or hurricane season, you can call our office at 772-398-8011 and schedule a pre storm inspection, which includes the 11 most common points of failure on a HVAC system as well as checking for proper tie down of unit and advising of any items we see could be potential trouble for your unit in case of a storm. If you mention you saw this advice in yourhub.com, you will receive this service for $10.00 off our regular price of $69.95.
