Follow Your Deam - It's Never too Late
Contributed by: Betty Bockoras on 6/18/2008

Betty Bockoras' first youth novel "The Mysterious Gift" was recently published by Capstone Fiction. This proves that if you work hard and keep a positive attitude you really can fulfill your dream ... at any age.

Betty didn't become interested in writing until her three children were grown. Wondering what she would do with the rest of her life, she took a few classes at the junior college in Okeechobee, where she lives. While her classmates were groaning about having to do a written assignment, Betty thought, "This is fun!"

She then signed up for creative writing classes and writing workshops, thinking she would write for newspapers and magzines. She wasn't interest in writing books - especially not fiction.

About the time when kids started flocking to the stores to buy Harry Potter books, she had an idea she thought might be just as intriguing: a story about strange and devious characters from an invisible kingdom who destroy goodwill with firery darts. It's based on the Bible, the sixth chapter of Ephesians.

Since Betty hadn't learned much about writing fiction she bought books on technique, plot, developing characters; she attended writing conferences where she took classes on fiction. She rewrote and rearranged her text many times over, until "The Mysterious Gift" was completed. It's now available to the public through online book stores and her website.

Betty invites you to take a look at her website. She built it herself, taking many weeks and lots of trials and errors until she finally got it right. The adress is: www.bettybockoras.com.

This 66-year-old lady wants to encourage people her age - and older - to follow their dream. It may be buried so deep in your heart you'll have to search for it, like she did. But somewhere inside you'll find some passion, some interest or talent - even though it's undeveloped - through which you can find purpose and fulfillment in the later years.

On Saturday, June 28, from 2-4 pm, Betty will be a Border's Book Store in Jensen Beach. Please drop by and say hello. Anyone having children or grandchildren between the ages of 9 through 12 might want to consider purchasing a signed copy of "The Mysterious Gift."
