It doesn't take more than one look to know that the 2007 Saturn Sky roadster is not your average Saturn product. The Sky is a bold step forward for a brand better known for friendly showrooms than aggressive designs.
The Sky is a very aggressive looking roadster built on GM's stiff and compact rear wheel-drive chassis. The Sky's long-hood front with its deep cooling ducts and small chrome accented grill looks like it can eat asphalt off the road. While the short-deck rear with its high mounted cat's eye taillights provides those who follow with a lesson in Euro design.
The Sky has a manual fabric top with glass rear window and defroster. The top quickly drops beneath a solid tonneau cover, leaving a pair of aerodynamic headrest fairings in view. The Sky rides on a 95.1-inch wheelbase. Supporting hardware includes independent short/long arm suspensions at both ends and 18-inch alloy wheels.
The Sky's striking lines are pushed by the 2.4 Ecotec dual cam 4 cylinder engine that has an output of 177 horsepower and 166 pound-feet of torque. A 5 speed manual and 5 speed automatic transmission are avilable. A limited slip differential is available. The manual transmissionhas a 0 to 60 time of 7.2 seconds.
Respectible EPA fuel mileage ratings of 20 city/28 highway with the manual and 22 city/26 highway with the automatic. A higher flying Sky Redline with a turbo charged version that produces 260-horsepower debuts in the fall.
The ride of the Sky has a solid feel and better-than-average roadster ride quality. Transmission performance is very good for both the manual and auto, with clean shifts and gear ratios well matched to engine output.
Standard 4-wheel disc brakes produce a solid pedal and excellent feedback. ABS brakes are standard on the Sky. The Sky's interior is upscale and features piano black and chrome trim. Air conditioning, power windows, locks and mirrors are standard, as well as GM's OnStar with Automatic Crash Notification, which is triggered by the deployment of the front airbags or in a roolover.
Leather is available as part of the Premium Package. A tilt wheel is also available. CD audio with auxiliary input jack is included, upgrades that include a 6-disc changer and XM satellite radio are available.
A brand new Sky with manual transmission carries a base price of $23,690. The automatic starts at $24,540.
Quotes from automobile magazines about the Sky include:
MotorWeek- The 2007 Sky is not only the coolest Saturn yet, it's one of the best looking roadsters ever to drive the American road.
Business Week:- The new Saturn Sky roadster is a well priced winner.
Detroit News:- The well-tuned Sky roadster drives as good as it looks.
AutoWeek:- 2007 Saturn Sky - There will be no purple haze on the days you drive this Saturn.
The American Spectator:- When you see the Saturn Sky for the first time you'll want to know what it is; then you will very likely want to drive it.
The Saturn Sky can be seen at Saturn of Stuart, 3131 SE Federal Highway, Stuart. Call Ed Vossen, Sales and Leasing Consultant for directions and information. 772-403-5927.
