ColourMrks Salon, one of the most prominent colour specialist and styling salons on the Treasure Coast, has prepared a list of helpful hints to make sure the dog days of summer don't dog your hairstyle and health.
"We all love the fantastic summer weather that is unique to Florida at this time of year," said Amanda Higgs, Owner/Operator of the ColourMrks Salon. "And, just as we all have to take precautions against the heat and humidity this time of year by staying cool and drinking lots of liquids, we have to care for our hair as well," added Higgs.
Higgs has compiled a list of Eight Tips for Beautiful Summer Hair.
Consider these summer hair care tips by Amanda:
- Do you use a hot hair dryer, hot iron or even electric curlers to help maintain your beautiful hair? Try going on summer vacation from your hot styling tools for a few days. Go green and let Mother Nature help dry your hair. Then, proceed with your favorite style.
- An old family secret of mine is to braid your hair when it is wet and then let it dry naturally. You'll be pleasantly surprised the beautiful wavy locks that results.
- During the lazy, hazy, dog days of summer it is very easy to have "sun burned" or damaged hair. Make sure you regularly do deep hair conditioning treatments to keep your hair from "wilting" under the heat of the Florida tropics.
- Here's another family secret. Apply a deep conditioner just before bedtime and wear a shower cap to bed. When you awake in the morning, your hair will have a wonderful extra deep conditioning with amazing results.
- This one is easy. Don't forget to wear a hat when you are at the pool or beach. It helps prevent damage from the sun's powerful rays.
- Going into the pool? Shower first. It helps your hair by not allowing harmful chemicals in pool and other water to soak through the individual hairs on your head.
- We all know summer heat can create frizzies. That means you should not be afraid to have your ends trimmed. Ask your professional stylist to asses your hair texture for a recommendation on how often to trim to avoid the frizzies. Remember, frizzies are a sure signal that your hair is in despair.
- Finally, consider washing your hair less often in the summertime. Of course, consult with your professional stylist first. But, washing your hair less often in the summer heat allows it to absorb natural moister.
