JUPITER ISLAND, Florida/October 8, 2007- Physicians Immediate Care, one of the region's premier providers of ambulatory and urgent health care, has been selected to provide medical monitoring and treatment to area residents who were at ground zero in the aftermath of the September 11 attacks in New York City. According to Kenneth Palestrant, M.D., Founder, Physicians Immediate Care, the local practice was selected to provide these services based on the number of responders who live in the Treasure Coast region.
"The World Trade Center Medical Monitoring Program provides free, confidential medical monitoring examinations to workers and volunteers who responded to the September 11 attacks in New York City," said Dr. Palestrant. "For the next five years, responders who participate in the program will receive comprehensive and confidential medical examinations at regular intervals," he added.
The World Trade Center Medical Monitoring Program provides for standardized periodic medical testing of workers and volunteers who participated in rescue, recovery, cleanup, and related activities following the terrorist attack on the World Trade Center.
"This program will screen for the most common health problems reported among September 11 responders," said Dr. Palestrant.
These problems include:
- Persistent or chronic sinusitis or rhinitis
- Reactive airways disease (asthma)
- Laryngitis/tracheitis/bronchitis
- Gastro-esophageal reflux
- Emotional distress
- Persistent problems related to injuries sustained at the World Trade Center
