JUPITER ISLAND, Florida/September 24, 2008 - If you are looking for a way to support the American Red Cross Disaster Relief Fund, you don't have to look any further than your neighborhood grocery store check out aisle.
Publix and Winn Dixie have launched simultaneous campaigns to allow shoppers to contribute to the Red Cross Disaster Relief Fund at the checkout counter.
The American Red Cross Martin County Chapter is urging residents to give generously to the Disaster Relief Fund.
"The American Red Cross provides immediate response to more than 70,000 disasters each year through the Disaster Relief Fund," said Mary Sawyer, Executive Director, American Red Cross Martin County Chapter.
"This is an excellent way for our residents to round up their grocery purchase with a donation to help our friends and neighbors when they need help most," added Sawyer.
Winn Dixie has implemented the fund drive in all of its 521 retail grocery locations in Florida, Alabama, Louisiana, Georgia, and Mississippi. Publix has implemented the Red Cross campaign in 950 stores in 5 states.
"We want to send special thanks to Winn Dixie and Publix for helping the American Red Cross raise $100 million to keep the Disaster Relief Fund afloat," concluded Sawyer.
All American Red Cross disaster assistance is free, made possible by voluntary donations of time and money from the American people. You can help the victims of this and thousands of disasters across the country each year by making a financial gift to the American Red Cross Disaster Relief Fund, which enables the Red Cross to provide shelter, food, counseling and other assistance to victims of disaster. The American Red Cross honors donor intent. If you wish to designate your donation to a specific disaster, please do so at the time of your donation. Call 1-800-REDCROSS or 1-800-257-7575 (Spanish). Contributions to the Disaster Relief Fund may be sent to your local American Red Cross chapter or to the American Red Cross, P. O. Box 37243, Washington, DC20013.
