Contributed by: Linda Smith, Yates & Associates on 6/21/2006

JUPITER ISLAND, Florida/June 21, 2006 --- The American Red Cross Martin County Chapter's Disaster Education Simulator (DES) has received the prestigious Safety All-Star Award from the Home Safety Council (HSC). The DES is a customized 33 foot motor home that has been modified to become a mobile safety classroom. The DES is capable of simulating a tornado, house fire or hurricane.
According to Rob Shelt, Director of Disaster Services, "The Red Cross Disaster Education Simulator provides hands-on, interactive education to teach how to escape a burning room, and prepare for a hurricane. Since the simulator was added to our disaster preparedness programs a year ago, more than 4,000 people have experienced this very powerful safety teaching tool."
The Safety All-Star Award recognizes those special individuals behind the scenes who coordinate and implement their companies' safety programs. The Home Safety Council applauds individual and corporate achievements in safety at companies dedicated to promoting home safety within the workplace. Along with other Home Safety Council award winners, the 2006 Safety All-Star Award winners were honored at the second annual Salute to Home Safety Dinner on June 8, 2006 in Washington, D.C.
The Home Safety Council is the only national nonprofit organization solely dedicated to preventing home related injuries that result in nearly 20,000 deaths and 21 million medical visits each year. Through national programs, partnerships and the support of volunteers, HSC educates people of all ages to be safer in and around their homes. The Home Safety Council is a 501(c)(3) charitable organization located in Washington, DC.
