The Marine Industries Association of the Treasure Coast (MIATC) is conducting its first Treasure Coast Waterway Cleanup on Saturday, July 19, 2008. Thanks to sponsorship from the Florida Inland Navigation District, MIATC will conduct this event along the waterways of Martin, St. Lucie and Indian River Counties this summer.
We are seeking volunteers, service organizations, boating clubs, individuals, young and old to participate and make this cleanup a big success. The cleanup begins at 8:00am and continues until 12:30pm. All volunteers receive and event t-shirt and a burgee to display on their vessel during the cleanup. We are currently signing up teams and individuals to clean the areas of their choice. If you choose, you can register the day of the event.
"This is a terrific opportunity for boaters to be part of the solution to cleaning up our waterways and learn the importance of being a clean boater" says Marty Laven, MIATC's president-elect to the MIATC. "We want to educate boaters and create awareness about the importance of protecting our boating habitat. Many volunteers are needed to cleanup up the more than 125 miles of waterway. We invite all boaters to be part of this historic effort," says Laven.
Martin County sites are the Jensen Beach Boat Ramp, Sandsprit Park Boat Ramp, Jim Graham Boat Ramp, Leighton Park Boat Ramp and Timer Powers Park Boat Ramp. St. Lucie County sites include Rivergate Veteran's Park Boat Ramp in Pt. St Lucie, The Manatee Center Boat Ramp, Ft. Pierce Yacht Club, Harbortown Marina and Stan Blum Boat Ramp. Indian River County sites will include the Riverside Park Boat Ramp, Vero Beach Municipal Marina, the Wabasso Bridge Boat Ramp and the Dale Wimbrow Boat Ramp. These sites all have the capability to register boats on the day of the cleanup.
So mark your calendars and join us on July 19th, to be part of this community effort. Registration forms are available on our web site at www.miatc.com. For more information please contact Vera Locke, 772-692-7599.
