Rally-O: A Fun Sport For You And Your Dog
Rally obedience, or "Rally-O" as it has been termed by enthusiasts, is the latest American Kennel Club event to hit the show circuit. Rally-O combines characteristics of sports car racing, dog agility, and traditional obedience into a fun sport.
Rally is timed, includes 12-20 performance stations. A sign at each station gives instructions to the dog-handler team.Signs instruct teams to go fast or slow, to halt (dog must sit at heel), to make turns and circles, to reverse direction, to do a sit-stay-recall, or to follow other basic obedience exercises.
In our scheduled Rally II class we will continue to work on and perfect the skills taught in Rally I. This is a class for those who have completed Rally I, or equivalent, and are ready to move into the Rally Advanced ring. Performance is encouraged off leash and includes jumps. Satisfactory completion should enable the team to earn an AKC Rally Advanced (RA) title.
The focus in Rally is on teamwork, communication and fun, rather than precision. Rally is also a great sport for anyone doing Agility with their dog as well. It helps create a better working relationship and partnership and your dog learns to look to you for direction.
