Leaders of the Seminole Resistance
Palm Beach County Parks and Recreation Department will provide a
FREE guided walking tour of the Second Seminole War Battlefields in Riverbend Park on Saturday, November 14, 2009, starting at 10 am.
Local historian and author Richard Procyk will lead the 1 ½ hour tour of the battlefield and discuss the famous leaders from the Seminole Resistance during the Seminole Wars.
Riverbend Park is one of the most significant multi-level historic sites in Palm Beach County. Gateway to the Loxahatchee River, prehistoric and historic habitation has occurred along the Loxahatchee dating as far back as the Archaic Period over 5,000 years ago.
Two Second Seminole War battles took place along the Loxahatchee River in January 1838. Almost lost to history until local historians rediscovered its location, the battlefield is now saved as part of our local history.
Go back in time and join us as we stroll over these historic lands where figures from American History once tread. The Seminoles call this land sacred.
Comfortable shoes, bug spray, lawn chairs, sunscreen, raingear and bottled water are recommended.
Program is
FREE and reservations are recommended. For tour reservations or for more information,
call JoAnna at (561) 966-6686 (Mon-Fri: 8am-5pm).
Riverbend Park is operated by the Palm Beach County Parks and Recreation Department and is located at 9060 Indiantown Road in Jupiter, one mile west of the turnpike/I-95 exits on the left side of the road.
