Our local Fair began in 1912 as a small county event,
Starting at the Palm Beach Courthouse with a single tent.
After many locations, the fair moved to its current spot in 1958.
Now, fifty years later, the fair has grown and become first rate.
From the beginning to end, the 2008 Fair has reached fame,
First a VIP Gala Party, Ride-a thon, with 200 rides and games.
"Party With the Animals" was the 2008 Fair theme with over 20 animals
From trainers wrestling alligators and sharks.to Sea Lions balancing balls.
Just how high does a Ferris wheel go in the dark of night?
Just high enough to get photos of the fair and all its light.
The fair had a variety of entertainment with something for everyone to do,
An escape illusionist was handcuffed, shackled and submerged in full view.
She escaped in 150 seconds as I held my breath in only half that time.
Next she did a death-defying routine disappearing in a whirling jet turbine.
"Flight of Dreams" had dancers and sea creatures in glittering jungle costume.
A girl inside a large bubble rolls across the stage as drums beat a wild tune.
Hilarious Racing Pigs and the Doggies of the Wild West entertained all,
While high divers dressed as animals climb an 80 ft ladder for a scary fall.
Lemon and nurse sharks swam in a huge tank appearing hungry all the time,
But a brave diver played with them, rubbed their bellies and he emerged fine.
Sea lions were very large and did tricks all day long,
oNE Sea Lion danced with the trainer to a groovy song.
Three colorful parades with baton twirlers, marines and marching bands at the fair.
School groups, dancers, Shriners, horses, astronaut, clown and Smokey the bear.
Music flowed from entertainers daily on the Main or Community Stage,
Bluegrass singers and Big Band sounds in Yesteryear Village were the rage.
Visitors enjoyed the cooking shows, contests, craft expos,& competitions to view,
The Barn with cows, llamas, camels, goats, chickens, rabbits and a petting zoo.
Folks ate funnel cakes, turkey legs, sausage/peppers and other midway food,
Barbecue, elephant ears, cotton candy and gyros got them in the party mood.
"Party with the Animals" was the best and a good time
Everyone looks forward to the So Florida Fair in 2009.
