Jupiter Resident Stephen T. Clark graduated from Duke University on May 11, 2008. Clark received two degrees from Duke--a Bachelor of Science in Engineering, conferred upon him by the Pratt School of Engineering, and a Bachelor of Arts, conferred upon him by the Duke University Department of Music.
In a commencement ceremony held in the Duke University Chapel, Clark received his diploma and was specially recognized by Professor Donald B. Bliss as a Graduate with Distinction. This award is made to students, who, in the opinion of their departments and of special committees of the faculty, have demonstrated exceptional achievement in the areas of their special interest by conducting independent research and/or study, culminating in a distinguished piece of writing.
Clark's second degree reflects his love of vocal music. A tenor, Clark's Senior Voice Recital, held on March 2, 2008, included, among many selections, solos from G.F. Handel's "Recit: Comfort ye!" and "Aria: Every valley shall be exalted" from
The Messiah,
traditional British folk songs, and selections from Broadway's
Annie Get Your Gun
and
Street Scene.
He also performed duets with fellow vocal student Virginia Workman, including Henry Purcell's "Sound the trumpet,
Come Ye Sons of Art"
and "
Pur ti miro, L'incoronazione de Poppea"
by Claudio Monteverdi.
Clark has been accepted into the Pratt School of Engineering graduate program at Duke University and will pursue a masters' degree in mechanical engineering. Clark is the son of Leigh and Jim Clark of Jupiter.
