The Jupiter High School Marching Warrior Band members returned from New Orleans on January 3rd after taking part in the pre -game and halftime show in the 2008 73rd Annual Allstate Sugar Bowl.
During the six day adventure, eighty-one Marching Warriors with the assistance of forty chaperones, band staff and band siblings, participated in a national marching band competition, performed at two street-side locations in the French Quarter, and practiced with twenty-one other bands from around the nation in preparation for the SugarBowl performances.
The highlight of the trip was performing before 70,000 cheering football fans in the Superdome. Almost 2000 high school marching musicians, guard-members and dancers from all over the United States came together for an outstanding pre-game and half-time show. The Jupiter Warriors were able to experience the football game from ground-level at the 40 yard line right behind the Georgia Bulldogs as they stomped the University of Hawaii's Warriors.
The trip was not only about football! The students and chaperones also enjoyed a relaxing dinner cruise on the Natchez, a Mississippi River paddleboat that sported an authentic New Orleans Jazz band. The group experienced great Orleans cuisine including red beans and rice, gumbo, jambalaya, muffulettas, po boy sandwiches and bread pudding. The groups toured the French Quarter, an area rich with history dating back to 1718, while listening to street-side musicians belting out New Orleans jazz, viewing art galleries and voodoo shops while soaking up the area culture.
The road to this successful trip has been complex and has required the support of many Jupiter Band fans and local businesses. The students raised funds to offset the cost of the trip by selling Nova Scotian Christmas trees and wreaths, apples, Scrip Gift cards, band sponsorships, and even candybars! The parents and Boosters of the Marching Warriors put on their First Annual Golf Tournament on behalf of the students with profits directly reducing the cost of the students expenses. In addition, some of the band students helped our local community by participating in a corporate-sponsored Beach Clean-up, removing a truckload of environmentally unfriendly beach debris.
On behalf of the Jupiter High Marching Warrior Band, the parents and the Warrior Band Boosters, we would like to thank our many area public and business supporters for assisting the students reach for their dreams. Your support enabled these students to perform at a national-level event, experience another piece of culture-rich America and create life-long memories!
Go Warriors!
