It's that time of year again...the annual ritual for 5th grade boys in Jupiter, a right of passage in a sense... No we are not talking about the FCAT testing, rather, the bridging of cub scouts to full-fledged boy scouts. Yes there is more on the minds of these 5th grade boys than academics (and video games)! These young men are being prepared for a well-rounded future through the Boy Scouts of America scouting program.
The Jupiter Cub Scout Pack 774 conducted their Webelos Crossover Celebration at Tequesta Park on Sunday, March 4th.
The event included their annual crossover ceremony. A crossover ceremony like this one recognizes Webelos Scouts who have earned Cub Scouting's highest award as fully prepared to enter Boy Scouting. Boys achieving this rank are fifth grade students at Beacon Cove.
Cameron Ellis and Matthew Valencia crossed over from the Flaming Arrow den. Elliott Bell, Zachary Bishop, Michael Callahan, K.C. Dunkeman, Daniel Hitt, Eric LaPrairie, and Thomas Wilson crossed over from the Dragons.
As the Webelo Scouts crossover to Boy Scouts, they join a local Boy Scout Troop of their choice. The boys this year joined Troops 132 and 774.
Cub Scout Pack 774 is chartered through Lighthouse Elementary and Beacon Cove Intermediate Schools, and includes boys from first to fifth grades.
The Scouting program has three specific objectives, commonly referred to as the "Aims of Scouting." They are character development, citizenship training, and personal fitness. Specifically, the BSA endeavors to develop American citizens who are physically, mentally, and emotionally fit; have a high degree of self-reliance as evidenced in such qualities as initiative, courage, and resourcefulness; have personal values based on religious concepts; have the desire and skills to help others; understand the principles of the American social, economic, and governmental systems; are knowledgeable about and take pride in their American heritage and understand our nation's role in the world; have a keen respect for the basic rights of all people; and are prepared to participate in and give leadership to American society.
