Award Scholarship to
Jupiter High Environmental Academy Students
Jupiter, Florida - Two $1,000 scholarships were presented to graduating seniors from the Jupiter High School Environmental Research & Field Studies Academy. They were presented jointly by the Loxahatchee River District, Friends of the Loxahatchee River and the Van Pelt Foundation. Recipientswere Brett Peters and Jessica Mitchell.
The Loxahatchee River District, along with Friends of the Loxahatchee River, continues to support the high school program not only through scholarships, but also through internships and special field studies programs, which provide students with valuable hands-on experience and exposure to the many careers in environmental management.
"Our mission is not only to work to protect the river today, but also to look toward the future and inspire the next generation of environmental stewards," said Loxahatchee River District Executive Director Rick Dent.
The Loxahatchee River District has been named "Best in Nation" by the United States Environmental Protection Agency and honored for excellence in wastewater recycling by the Florida Water Environment Association. In addition to serving the community, the District is guided by the mission to place preservation of the Loxahatchee River as its highest priority. The District has initiated and supports several community environmental education programs, including the non-profit group Friends of the Loxahatchee River, the new Loxahatchee River Environmental Center, Busch Wildlife Sanctuary, as well as a research component, the WildPine Ecological Laboratory, which assists with water quality monitoring programs and studies.
