Contributed by: Deborah Nellson on 5/19/2008

Three lucky, yet worthy Jupiter women were awarded scholarships by the Jupiter Tequesta Junior Women's Club to pursue their education. Three graduates from Jupiter High School, Lauren Streett, Amanda Mikulak and Jessica Mitchell received $1,000 each.

For over a decade the Jupiter Tequesta Junior Women's Club has awarded scholarships locally annually to deserving, graduating high school females and older to assist financially with their education. Applicants are evaluated using the criteria of commitment to community service, financial need, leadership skills and academic ability. Special emphasis is placed on community service. All scholarship monies are paid directly to their education institution of choice.

This year's recipients are pursuing their education as follows:

· Amanda Mikulak will attend the University of South Florida where she is pursuing music education and hopes to eventually get her Masters.

· Jessica Mitchell will be going to Florida Gulf Coast University to pursue a career in the environmental conservation field.

· Lauren Street will be attending Flagler College and plans to become a guidance counselor.

The club accepts applications in the fall and spring each year from both female graduating high school students and previous graduates from the Jupiter & Tequesta area who are seeking to further their education. Students graduating with the class of 2009 and woman who meet the scholarship criteria can obtain an application on the clubs website, www.JTJWC.org in the Fall and high school guidance counselors will also have information.

The Jupiter Tequesta Junior Women's Club is a service organization founded in 1963. The members volunteer their time, energy and raise funds to give assistance where needed and to promote cultural, educational and civic interest in the Jupiter and Tequesta community.
