Famed Choreographer to Teach at the Maltz Jupiter Theatre Summer Conservatory
The Conservatory of Performing Arts (COPA) at the Maltz Jupiter Theatre is pleased to announce that RON DEJESUS, famed choreographer and assistant to Twyla Tharp, will be teaching daily jazz classes at the Summer Conservatory and choreographing the high school production of 42
nd STREET June 9 - June 28
th .
Mr. DeJesus, ballet master and choreographer was a principal dancer with Hubbard Street Dance where Twyla Tharp created "I Remember Clifford" for him. He joined the original cast of MOVIN OUT on Broadway and became the assistant to Ms. Tharp. He has created works for Hubbard Street, Giordano Jazz Dance, Point Park University, Harvard and Purchase University, as well as hundreds of productions throughout the country. He has been the recipient of the New York Musical Theatre Festival Award for Excellence for Best Choreography in 2006 and 2007 as well as numerous other awards for outstanding choreography. He has choreographed many commercials and was the Assistant Choreographer for the movie A LEAGUE OF THEIR OWN with Madonna and Rosie O'Donnell. DeJesus has choreographed the workshop of the Broadway bound new musical CHEER and Maltz Jupiter Theatre's own production of The Full Monty.
Also on faculty for the summer is Craig Wich, Professor of Voice at Boston Conservatory, Marc Durso, acting coach in Hollywood, Los Angeles, Chicago and Miami; Jay Johnson of Chicago and New York, and Betty Saunders of the Eastman School of Music.
The senior Summer Conservatory daily classes is for students ages 13 - 20 and will be held in jazz, tap, voice, music theory, scene study, improvisation, yoga and rehearsal/production. Cost for the 3 week Summer at the Conservatory is $600 per person. Registrations will be accepted beginning in May, 2008. Number of students accepted is limited and will be based on a first come, first served basis. COPA was founded to bring quality education in the performing arts to children, teens and adults of all abilities. Classes are currently offered to children, teens and adults in Acting, Musical Theatre, Introduction to the Performing Arts, Ballet, Jazz, Voice and Dance Technique for the acting student. They are held at the Maltz Jupiter Theatre after school and on Saturdays. In addition, private instruction in monologue work and audition preparation are available upon request. Scholarships are offered to students who are financially needy.
