Blowing Rock Stage Comes to Jupiter

Blowing Rock Stage Company announces Florida Auditions

The Blowing Rock Stage Company (BRSC), a 23 year-old Equity theatre located in the Blue Ridge Mountains of Western North Carolina will be in Jupiter, Monday, March 10th to hold auditions for its 2008 Summer Season.

Auditions will be held the Burt Reynolds & Friends Museum from 10am to 5pm.

Kenneth Kay, BRSC's Producing Artistic Director since 2001 and a former a Florida-based actor and director, will be conducting the auditions.

BRSC's 2008 summer season consists of six plays and musicals. In order, they are: 8-Track: The Sounds of the Seventies, The Immigrant, Leading Ladies, Peter Pan, Rumors and the North Carolina premiere of Backwards in High Heels.

Actors should prepare a 60-90 second monologue of contemporary material.

Singers should prepare a ballad or up-tempo song from the musical theatre. No pop tunes, please. Singers should bring sheet music in their key. A pianist will be provided or you may accompany yourself.

All are asked to please bring a current headshot with a resume attached.

BRIEF HISTORY

The Blowing Rock Stage Company was founded in 1986 as the North Carolina Stage Company. The company renovated the Theatre adjacent to the Blowing Rock School. The first show produced by the company is My Husband's Wild Desires Drove Me Mad, which opened on July 10th, 1986.

This first season consisted of 5 Productions and a total of 15 performances. The name is changed to the current Blowing Rock Stage Company in 1987 and in 1989 the company enters its first agreement with Actors' Equity Association.

In the past 22 years the Blowing Rock Stage Company has produced over 110 full-scale professional plays and musicals. In 1998 the Rocket Players Youth Theatre was formed. 2001 saw the beginning of TOPs (Theatre Outreach Programs) and New Voices of the South, and in 2002 the Intern/Apprentice Program was started.

Including special events, children's productions, play readings, and regular shows the Stage Company now produces nearly 200 performances a year.

The Stage Company is currently housed in the new Mariam and Robert Hayes Performing Arts Center. 2008 will mark BRSC's 23rd Season of producing professional theatre in the High Country.
