Maltz Jupiter Theatre Receives More Carbonell Nominations Than Any South Florida Regional Theatre
The Boy Friend leads with 11 nominations; Man of LaMancha with 10
The Maltz Jupiter Theatre received the highest honor in South Florida theatre excellence with 21 Carbonell Award nominations; the most by any South Florida Regional Theatre and the most in the theatre's short five seasons.
A splashy production of the flapper-era musical
The Boy Friend took home the most nominations with 11; followed by the amazing period musical Man of LaMancha with 10.
"We are particularly happy to receive so many nominations because Man of La Mancha and The Boy Friend were the only two shows that we produced that were eligible given the three-week required run. Several of our excellent shows from the last year such as Ain't Misbehavin and Deathtrap only ran two weeks and were therefore not up for consideration" said Andrew Kato, Artistic Director. "The vote of confidence by this important group only solidifies us as a major regional theatre in South Florida."
The Boy Friend's 11 nominations include Best Production of a Musical; Best Director/Musical for Mark Martino; Best Actress/Musical for Natalie Hall; Best Supporting Actor/Musical Connor Gallagher; Best Supporting Actress/Musical for Julie Kotarides and Erin McGuire; Musical Direction/Musical Helen Gregory; Choreography/Musical Denis Jones; Best Scenic Design Dan Kuchar; Best Light Design Donald Edmund Thomas and Best Costume Design Jose M. Rivera.
Man of La Mancha's 10 nominations include Best Production of a Musical; Best Director/Musical for Peter Flynn; Best Actor Neal Benari; Best Actress/Musical for Alicia Irving; Best Supporting Actor/Musical Michael Lluberes; Musical Direction/Musical Helen Gregory; Best Scenic Design Michael Bottari and Ronald Case; Best Light Design Donald Edmund Thomas and Best Costume Design Michael Bottari and Ronald Case and Best Sound Design Luis Logo.
In 2007 the Maltz Jupiter Theatre took home the prestigious Best Production of a Musical for The Tin Pan Alley Rag along with two others for Jiri Zizka as Best Director of a Musical and Best Musical Direction for Brad Ellis. Over the past five seasons the theatre has won five total Carbonell Awards and has been nominated for 46 awards.
32nd Annual Carbonell Award nominations were released today along with details of the awards ceremony, which is one of the most anticipated events of the theatrical season. The Carbonell Awards, sponsored by The Law Firm of Broad & Cassel, P.A., will take place Monday, April 7 at 7:30 p.m. in the Amaturo Theater of the Broward Center for the Performing Arts, with Broadway leading lady Christine Andreas as mistress of ceremonies.
