Kenneth Kay, Producing Artistic Director of the Blowing Rocks Stage Company in North Carolina will be conducting an informative audition workshop at the Burt Reynolds & Friends Museum in Jupiter on Sunday, March 9th, on Monday March 10th Mr. Kay will be holding Auditions for Equity Actors.
Called The Audition Science Seminar, this fast paced 3 hour practicum on the "Do's and more Do's" of auditioning for the professional theatre will begin promptly at 6:30 pm on Sunday Night. The Auditions will be held Monday10Am
to 5pm.
"It's a three hour crash course that will remove some of the mystery and terror of having to audition." said Kay. I try to do this not by reciting a list of "don'ts" or absolutes, but by helping actors to understand and appreciate the possibilities when it's their turn to speak."
The first part of the workshop is designed to cover the "nuts and bolts" business of the audition process, from finding and choosing material, to headshots and resumes, to finding places to work and the process of arranging auditions, the etiquette of the auditions, and the follow-up procedure after the audition is over.
The second half of the evening will be devoted to working on and critiquing monologues brought in by the actors in the class.
"This way the actors get a chance to apply the things that we have been discussing, "said Kay. "Actors must be able to deal with the business part of the theatre and still remain emotionally available when they hear the call, 'Next!' Because by the time they hear 'Thank you." it may be too late."
The cost of The Audition Science Seminar is only $25 ($20 for union members with a valid card). Actors should prepare a 60-90 second monologue of contemporay material and bring a current headshot and resume.
Enrollment is limited to 25 and reservations are required. Please call 561-743-9955 for reservations or email Mike Daniel, the BR Musuem's
curator medaniel@bellsouth.net
.
