Set up a tent, carnival games and a grill outside; bring in some Irish musicians and a beer truck and you're ready for a grand and glorious celebration.
That's the formula that Frank Gillespie and Brendan Grace decided upon for their first St. Patrick's Day as the new owners of McCarthy's Irish Restaurant & Pub in Tequesta."We wanted it to start around noon; early enough so that people would bring their families, "said Gillespie. "In Ireland, pubs set up carnival games for the kids and music for the adults to enjoy."
It seemed to work as by early afternoon, both inside and outside was packed. Many of the groups included three generations of family members. "My son is ten and loves hearing the Irish music and playing the games, "said Kathleen Greene of Tequesta. "He even got into the dunk tank and heckled people to throw the baseball and dunk him, which his grandparents enjoyed."
Another family enjoying the day was the Houlihan family from Singer Island. New grandfather, Dennis, was thrilled to be showing off his beautiful girls, grand daughter Delaney Marie House and daughter Kelly Houlihan House."We were so pleased to see families enjoying themselves, "said Brendan Grace, co owner and Irish entertainer. "I'm always working on St. Patrick's Day but. I decided to take the day off this year. I've really enjoyed being able to help host this wonderful party at McCarthy's."
The outdoor entertainment featured Sean Dunphy and Paud Griffin who arrived from Ireland a week prior to St. Patrick's Day. Noel Kingston, a regular favorite at McCarthy's was featured inside the pub along with the Tir Na Greine Irish step-dancers. "Ongoing music and fun was our goal for this first celebration," said Gillespie. "Next year will be bigger and better!"
