When you start with an enthusiastic group of patrons and friends, local dignitaries and Tequesta police and firefighters then throw in a couple of musicians and a bagpiper to add a dash of color, you've got an opening that is really grand.
The colorful scene kicked off the official opening of McCarthy's Restaurant & Pub in Tequesta when new owners Brendan Grace and Frank Gillespie, along with Chamber of Commerce officials, held a ribbon cutting on November 5th.
Highlights included the Irish custom of having the parish priest bless the establishment, Rev. Aidan Hynes, pastor of St. Christopher Catholic Church in Hobe Sound, attended to the task and included a blessing for the assembled group. Gillespie and Grace welcomed the Tequesta officials and thanked the community for the warm reception they've received since taking over the ownership.
Bag-piper Pat Crowley led the cheering audience into the newly renovated pub where Irish musicians Jimmy Shettleroe of Echoes of Erin and accordionist Bernie McAllister keep spirits high with music throughout the afternoon. It didn't slow down during the evening as Irish balladeer Noel Kingston arrived to continue the musical festivities.
"We never expected such a wonderful turnout in the middle of the afternoon, "said Gillespie. "Having Tequesta Mayor Jim Humpage and Vice Mayor Pat Watkins as well as the police and firemen was indeed a treat for us."
A treat for attending guests was comedian Brendan Grace entertaining with his special Irish humor." I flew in from Ireland yesterday to be here for this grand event," he said. "It's a wonderful turn out of friends and other restaurant owners who are here today."
McCarthy's Restaurant & Pub, 187 Tequesta Drive, Tequesta serves lunch Monday through Friday in the pub from 11 a.m.-3 p.m. and serves dinner nightly. For additional information on entertainment visit the web site at mccarthysirishpub.net.
