Fiscal Responsibility Drives Positive Performance

Jupiter Medical Center (JMC) today announced audited results for fiscal year 2007, turning in a strong financial performance driven by aggressive quality and operational improvements, and cost containment initiatives.

For the year ended September 30, 2007, the Medical Center reported excess revenue over expenseson a consolidated basis of $ 14.2 million, on revenues of $ 174 million. Excess revenue over expenseswas up 188 percent and revenues were up 13 percent from fiscal year 2006.

"This was a pivotal year as we moved forward with our transition to self-management and a new management team," said Paul Dell Uomo, JMC CEO. "It was also a marquee year as we launched a long-range Strategic Plan and Management Action Plan to provide us with a road map for the future and a clear vision of what Jupiter Medical Center must accomplish to continue to meet the needs of the growing community."

2007 financial highlights include:

· An 8.3 percent increase in admissions, and a 4.1 percent increase in total surgeries. Expense control did not increase at corresponding levels, resulting in a 1 percent operating margin, compared to a negative 1.5 percent margin the prior year.

· New point of service collection procedures for co-pays, self-pay and deductibles resulted in collections of $2.2 million, as compared to $1.7 million in 2006.

· Improved centralized scheduling and insurance pre qualifications resulted in Medicare denials of less than 1 percent.

· Reductions in contract labor by $1 million in fiscal year 2007 versus fiscal year 2006.

Outpatient revenues were up $313,755 as the result of JMC acquiring additional ownership of the Jupiter Outpatient Surgery Center in April. There were 1,085 births, 11,696 admissions to the hospital, 6,382 surgeries, 28,939 Emergency Room visits and 97,926 outpatient visits during the fiscal year.

Dell Uomo said community satisfaction and resulting support for JMC was at an all-time high, with donations to JMC's Foundation increasing 50 percent over 2006 to $9 million.

He noted that clinical excellence continues to be a priority with JMC receiving recognition being among the top 10 percent of all hospitals in the nation for overall orthopaedic and pulmonary services, the treatment of strokes and joint replacement, according to HealthGrades, a leading independent healthcare ratings organization. Additionally, JMC's long term care and rehabilitation facility, the Pavilion, received a 5-star quality rating from the Agency for Health Care Administration for the sixth consecutive year.

Dell Uomo also said the strategic planning process included plans to increase service lines to meet the needs and expectations of a community whose profile will change in the next several years.

"Being prepared to meet the projected growth expectations of the Jupiter area has been of vital concern to us," Dell Uomo said. "Our current expansion of the Emergency Department and the addition of beds, while we maintain our outstanding reputation for patient service and patient outcomes, is a credit to our world-class physicians and staff."

A not-for-profit 283-bed community Medical Center consisting of 163 private acute care hospital beds and 120 long-term care beds, JMC provides a broad range of services, with specialty concentrations in orthopaedics, long-term care, minimally invasive vascular procedures, cancer care and advanced diagnostics. JMC is currently in the midst of a major, multi-year growth plan which includes an Emergency Department expansion and parking facility. The Medical Center has approximately 1,400 employees, 490 physicians and 700 volunteers.
