JUPITER, FLa. (Aug. 13, 2009) - Jupiter Medical Center has once again received accreditation from the Joint Commission on Accreditation of Healthcare Organizations. The Joint Commission is an independent, not-for-profit organization that sets standards for healthcare quality throughout the world. It is governed by a board comprised of physicians, nurses and consumers.

"The results of the Joint Commission's latest survey are exemplary and reflect the extraordinary effort of all hospital employees," said Paul Dell Uomo, President & CEO. "It was especially gratifying to spend time with members of the Joint Commission survey team during their 4-day visit here last month."

The Joint Commission evaluates the quality and safety of care for more than 16,000 healthcare organizations. To earn and maintain accreditation, organizations undergo an extensive on-site review by a team of healthcare professionals to evaluate the organization's performance in areas that affect patient care.

"During the survey, members of the Joint Commission gave us unprecedented positive feedback," Dell Uomo said. "Several of them remarked about the superiority of the facility and our outstanding commitment to quality - comments not routinely heard by a reviewing team doing a survey."

In addition to the overall facility, JMC has also been certified as a Primary Stroke Center by the Joint Commission, since 2008. The Joint Commission is the nation's oldest and largest standards-setting and accrediting body in healthcare. According to its website, accreditation assures patients that an organization is continually working to provide the highest quality services, is in compliance with the high standards set by the Joint Commission, and is able to attract qualified staff because they have more opportunities to develop their skills and knowledge.

"Accreditation by the Joint Commission is the result of the hard work invested by the hospital's staff, physicians and volunteers," said Mary Bishop, VP Patient Care Services and Chief Nursing Officer. "We are proud to be recognized for our dedication to providing the finest services and care to the Jupiter Medical Center community."
