Jupiter, FL (
Aug. 21, 2009) -- Jupiter Medical Center is proud to announce its new Outpatient Oncology Rehabilitation Program to benefit local area cancer patients. Therapists specially trained in the most current oncology therapy protocols will provide physical, occupational and speech therapy to help patients control cancer treatment side effects such as pain, fatigue, osteoporosis and arthritis.
Statistics from MD Anderson Cancer Center report that there are currently 10 million cancer survivors in the United States. It is estimated that baby boomers will increase this number to more than 18 million survivors by 2020. Cancer treatment therapies such as chemotherapy and radiation treatments may leave these millions of survivors with lifelong health issues that require ongoing medical care. Rehabilitation can help address these issues through exercise and other modalities to improve their quality of life, maximize daily functions and ensure comfort.
"We are so proud to expand the services we provide our cancer patients so they can have access to a truly comprehensive, continuum of care," said John Romano RN, BSN, MBA, Director of Cancer Services at Jupiter Medical Center's Ella Milbank Foshay Cancer Center. "We are confident this convenient access to a new philosophy in cancer treatment care will make a difference in their lives as survivors."
Outpatient Oncology Rehabilitation services will be conveniently located on the second floor of the Foshay Cancer Center. Therapy sessions are covered by Medicare and most private insurances. A physician referral is required to determine if therapy is appropriate for each patient.
