The staff and management of Taylor & Modeen Funeral Home in Jupiter are committed to collecting unwrapped toys as been part of the U.S. Marine Corps Toys for Tots Program. In fact, they made this decision eleven years ago and are amazed at the local response. "Every year, we surpass the previous year," said Bill Taylor, owner and president emeritus of the family owned business. " Although there are numerous pick up locations around town, the growing population keeps our toy collection expanding every season."
The Toys for Tots program, founded by Major Bill Hendricks USMCR in 1947 in Los Angeles, went nationwide in 1948 as the U.S. Marine Corp Reserve Toys for Tots Program. Since then, according to Reader's Digest, it has become the "Best Children's Charity."
Each year the Toys for Tots campaign surpasses all previous records, a tribute to the tireless work and dedication of the 456 local campaign coordinators, the Marine Forces Reserve staff and the staff of the Marine Toys for Tots Foundations as well as the outstanding support of a broad sector of corporate American and millions of caring Americans. Toys for Tots coordinators collected and distributed 15.1 million toys to 6.5 million needy children.
"We've had Marines volunteering for this program for years," said GST. David Shumaker, this years' coordinator. "We'd like to make people aware that early donations are really appreciated as it gives us more time to sort and deliver. I'd also like to mention that toys for children 0-3 years of age are in demand as well as girls from 11-14 years of age. We appreciate all donations and thank the community for the outstanding involvement."
To be a part of this years program for needy children, drop off unwrapped toys at Taylor & Modeen Funeral Home, 250 Center Street in Jupiter, Monday through Friday between 9 a.m. and 5 p.m., or anywhere throughout Palm Beach and Martin Counties where you see the bright red Toys for Tots train logo.
