The annual Christmas in Killarney celebration to benefit Toys for Tots will continue at McCarthy's Irish Restaurant & Pub in Tequesta. New Irish owners Frank Gillespie and Brendan Grace embraced the American tradition of helping gather toys for underprivileged children through the national Toys for Tots drive.
"We are delighted to be able to participate in this annual event and continue the McCarthy's tradition of helping others, "said Frank Gillespie. "We are already gathering new, unwrapped toys and hope to have lots more by December 17th when we're hosting Christmas in Killarney."
The traditional Irish event started seven years ago with the original owners, John, Marilyn and Brendan McCarthy brought in Irish balladeer Noel Kingston to create a musical event to celebrate the holidays. When approached to have patrons bring in donations for Toys for Tots, the community minded McCarthy family were quick to embrace the holiday cause.
Monday evening, December 17th, the tradition continues with a relaxing evening of traditional Irish music and Christmas favorites provided by Noel Kingston. Two representatives from the U.S. Marine Corp Reserves will be on hand to accept the donation of toys for children.
Over the 58 years of the U.S. Marine Corps Reserve Toys for Tots Program, Marines have distributed more than 332.5 million toys to 158.7 million needy children. This charitable endeavor has made U.S. Marines the unchallenged leaders in looking after needy children at Christmas. Over its 14 year life span, the Marine Toys for Tots Foundation has supplemented local toy collections with more than 55.5 million toys valued at more than $284 million; plus has provided promotion and support materials valued at over $3.2 million.
For additional information call McCarthy's at 744-2383.
