Tuesday, December 4, 2007-Jupiter, FL The E-Quality of Life Foundation held their First Annual Trim-A-Tree for Accessibility Brunch Sunday, December 2 at the Jupiter Beach Resort Hotel & Spa.
The event began with a "Winter Wonderland" full of 19 holiday trees decorated and designed by local businesses to include: Interiors by Laura, C.E.A. Inc. Association Property Management, Flowermart, Coyle-Thompson Designs, LLC, WJTW Hometown Radio and many more! The public walked through the winter wonderland and were able to bid on the various themed holiday trees as part of the fundraiser
. The holiday trees will be displayed at the Jupiter Beach Resort and are available for purchase (bid) until Wednesday, December 5 th at noon.
The E-Quality of Life's mission is to improve the quality of life for the physically challenged by addressing accessibility issues and providing solutions through the installation and maintenance of power automated door openers. More than 18% of the population in the United States is physically challenged and faces entry barriers on a daily basis. E-Quality of Life creates awareness within the community through education as to this very special real and overlooked issue.
Trim-A-Tree for Accessibility is sponsored by AAADM (Association of American Automated Door Manufacturers).
The Keynote Speaker Larry M. Schneider; AIA addressed current accessible issues and explained the changes that can be expected for the future. Larry has been involved with accessibility codes for the State of Florida since 1985. He is currently on the AIA committee that creates the national guidelines for accessibility compliance and use. He is an active member of the AIA, the ICC, the Florida Fire Marshals & Inspectors Association, the Building Officials Association of Florida, NFPA, the National Association of ADA Coordinators and the American Association of People with Disabilities.
The Master of Ceremony was Mike Caruso from WPEC-TV Channel 12 in West Palm Beach where he is currently a video producer. He graciously gave a personal perspective on his life's experiences from the difficulties and challenges he has lived through telling real stories that made the attendees truly understand the issues.
The Honorary Chairperson was Susan Arena, ASID-- Founder and President of the E-Quality of Life Foundation Inc. Accomplished Interior Designer and business owner, Commercial Pilot, Patent Owner, and Retired United Airlines' Flight Attendant. Susan educated the guests with the history of the E-Quality of Life Foundation and their mission. She explained that in such a short time of 8 months, the foundation has installed electric door openers across Palm Beach County and expects to install one more door before the end of the year in Lake Worth at Don Carter's Bowling Alley. A brief video was presented to show the highlights and television footage from all of the doors that had abeen installed as well as all the media coverage the foundation has received. Susan then explained to the crowd that she needs their help to "make some noise" about the accessibility issues.
The afternoon concluded with performance from three of the Conservatory students from the Maltz Jupiter Theatre singing holiday songs followed by a raffle and silent auction. Santa Claus was on hand to greet all the guests and took pictures in the" Winter Wonderland".
The E-Quality of Life Foundation encourages everyone to visit the "Winter Wonderland" to place a bid on a tree of their choice. The monies raised will help open more doors for everyone.
