Although St. Peter Catholic Church recently celebrated its 20th anniversary, this Christmas will be the start of a wonderful new tradition for the multi cultural Jupiter congregation. It started when musical director Tom Tiehel saw The Singing Christmas Tree in West Palm Beach several years ago. "I just thought it was a beautiful and joyous way to celebrate the season," he said. "It's taken a few years to get it all together, but thanks to hard work on the part of all of our choirs, we're doing our first Singing Christmas Tree concert."
The actual stand that forms a Christmas tree has been custom built. It contains over 20,000 pieces and weighs 2,000 pounds. It will provide standing room for the musical ministry throughout the concert. The singing group is comprised of 50 adults and teens who will be accompanied by a full orchestra with organ/piano. "We will also have a performance by the combined teen and adult hand bell choir as well as choreographed musical selections by the children's choir," said Tiehel ."The music program will feature holiday favorites both secular and sacred."
"We've tried to select several dates so that people will take time out to get away from holiday stress and enjoy the true meaning of Christmas," said Tiehel. "The week leading into Christmas seemed perfect, especially since we will have an appearance by Santa. We're hoping that people will come with their families and make it a regular Christmas tradition in future years.
A Singing Christmas Tree will be presented in the St. Peter Catholic Church Parish Hall, 1701 Indian Creek Blvd., Jupiter on Dec. 17, 18, 19th. All performances start at 7 p.m. Advance tickets are $15 and can be purchased by phone at 561 575-0837. Tickets at the door are $20.
